The Mask

Search behind the mask, I exist there
hidden, but always revealed to you
With you, I am always myself
an open book, no pages unturned

The world sees the mask of my face
and does not feel the heart
To you, I've given my every heart beat
you are the air I breathe

Unveil the mask and see
behind the covering , me
discard the mask, set me free

Often others only see what they want
or what I allow or prefer them too
Through my masquerade, I try to please others
formed and shaped to meet their needs

When behind this mask, the tears flow
no one sees the pain or feels the hurt
The face on the mask remains unchanged
and here I can hide , only you know

Unveil the mask and see
behind the covering, me
discard the mask, set me free

But you, require nothing more of me
then that of which I truly am
You are my world seen through my eyes
whether the mask is on or off

Liberate me of this unwanted mask
unite me with all that I am
Only you can set me free to live,
to be myself through your love
